Mountain style

Chalet in Meribel,France via Elle Decoration

No white Christmas in Connecticut this year. I long for snow, mountains and skiing. When I am asked to design ski houses, I tend to gravitate towards a warm comforting style, rich wood, comfortable furniture, spaces designed for all generations to enjoy, accommodating parents, grand parents, children and friends in a nurturing atmosphere, casual and carefree.

These are my vision and ideal spaces, would it be in the Alps, the Rockies, the Tetons or the Andes (my favorite ski haunts)

A Bientot,

  1. Hi Francine, what a scrumptious post!! Reminds me of when we went to Switzerland about 8 years ago, what a beautiful wonderful place! You have designed my ultimate dream ski house/chalet..oozing with charm, elegance, and refined rustic beauty...perfection!

  2. Francine-
These images are of some of the coziest places I have seen. I also would love to be in the snow somewhere, anywhere.
Strange how I can identify the work of my favorite hometown designer Bobby McAlpine. Love the way our signature is attached to our work.
    Have a nice 2012.

  3. Stunning have me wishing for a white Christmas too.

    Warm regards

  4. Hi Francine, how cozy, stylish and inviting. A dream places to return from frosty outdoors. I love cross country skiing but still no snow in Toronto.
    Have a Happy 2012 !

  5. I'll go skiing with you anytime if these are the homes we will be snoozing in after a long day of hitting the slopes. LOL. I'm with you on ski homes...warm, cozy, relaxing and stylish. I'll be hitting the slopes out west this winter and look forward to the trip. Inviting images.

  6. These images are stunning. Love the warm and cozy spaces and perfect for any chalet!!

  7. Dear Francine,
Your mountain style is also my style!!!
Love every picture here! Did you see my post about the new ski retreat in Megève, called Challet Zannier?
    Have a nice week Francine!

OH MY....I want to have snow, I want it to be cold, and I want to build a fire!!!! These rooms are fabulous! And thank you so much for visiting me! Anita

  9. Francine that Bobby McAlpine room grounded by a fabulous rug and the room with the corner fireplace and pinky cushions I love!!

We received just a dusting of snow last night!

  10. i am going to have to revisit this post again and again... i am so passionate about how this all looks and feels...
all i hope is that in august... you and i are sitting at a dining table for hours... catching up on years of friendship.
happy new year darling francine... xoxo

  11. So cozy!! I don't ski.... I tried ONCE... bad experience! Would probably make a very comical blog post. That doesn't stop me from wanting to cuddle up with a warm throw in front of a fire with a good book in one of these lovely rooms. Thanks so much for your comment over at my blog today I really appreciated it! xo

  12. These are absolutely gorgeous examples!!!!! I love every single image!

  13. Love them all. I've written about Les Fermes de Marie several times even though I've never been there!! I've always wanted to do a family alpine vacation - those fireplaces all look so very appealing!

  14. I have read a few just right stuff here. Definitely price bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how a lot effort you place to create this kind of fantastic informative website.
