Designing for kids...

Back from Vegas (post to follow...)  on to the New York gift show. I was not particularly looking for
anything specific  as I seldom place orders at this show, with the exception of great candles and some accessories.

I am however, in the process of designing 5 kids bedrooms and playrooms  for different projects. I tend to incorporate modern design even for children's rooms as I like to see kids in unfussy, bright, fun spaces.

I have already picked great modern pieces from Knoll kids and was thrilled to have found fun accessories, furniture and lighting for boys and girls.

A few ideas for the "modern" kid...

From Knoll kids:

Fun pieces for girl's bedrooms from Seletti: dots or stripes?

Fun cardboard cut outs

As for the more romantic girl, I imagine a mural of dragonflies...

Lighting with a twist...

And modern sophistication from Jonathan Adler kids

For the very young set, an intriguing beautiful mobile

Mirrored clouds...

And soft colors...

Can't wait to see all the rooms finished...I just have such fun designing for my young clients

  2. Francine,
They really are fun and bright. Pretty
Hip or Hep looking. The stripe dresser is a real eye stopper. The chairs, dragon flies and that lighting are exceptional. What fun it must be to follow you around. Hunker down, there is a new snow strorm on it's way.

  5. I am sorry now that I missed going to the NYIGS with you. Some of what you found there looks like it would work for the grown-up 'modern kid' that wants a little fun in their life! Also I love the scaled down Knoll furniture. Five kids rooms?

  10. Super sympa! I find it harder to design for kids than for adults as there are often too many cooks in the kitchen... but color and simplicity and fun is a very good formula. Love your choices. Bravo!

  16. Hello Francine,
So sorry that it is a while ago since I visited your blog!! A most interesting post about designing for children.
Sometimes it is really difficult to find the right items and furniture, I might say! One of my readers recently asked me how I would design a room for her son who badly wanted to have his room in a surfin atmosphere!!!! I am thinking about it and I am browsing the internet!
Francine, isn't it possible to subscribe with email on your blog? It would be very comfortable.
I would love to read your blog everytime you post!
    Kind regards,
    Greet

  19. Hello Francine,

Hope you are very well! These pieces are fantastic. Kids are so great to design for, I must say—limitless fun, as seen here. I just adore that red chair so much—classic and vivid. Have a wonderful time designing for these children—I would love to see images of the rooms when they are complete, if you would like to share :)

Wishing you a wonderfully relaxing weekend...

    Warmly,
    Sarah
